.-1 CURIOUS INDUSTRY. The statement recently made, that the supply of ostrich feathers from Africa is gradually becoming far inade quate to the great and constant demand for them by dealers, has led to seme in teresting explanations of the methods of treating and disposing of these arti cles in the -workshops of Europe, where iliis curious industry is almost exclusively carried on. It appears that the feathers plucked from the living ostrich are far more beautiful, as well as more durable, than those taken some time after death ; but the feathers ob tained from recently killed birds have the same qualities of adaptation as -well as the living ones, and are far superior to the cast or dropped feathers. The plumage of the male bird, as is gener ally the case in all varieties of the feathered race, is very superior to that of the female, the tine drooping plumes on the back and near the tail being of the purest white, -while those of the fe male birds are never frae from the -well-know...
