It pleasing .to record that since ■ the - present Council came into office, a keen.desire has been shown to make our district more attractive by.the beautincation of our streets .with suitable . trees. This year. an even. greater feature -was made of Arbor Day locally, than last year and the good work that the Council, has done will un- doubtedly be a matter of pride for the' many residents in the Ideali- ties so recently planted.

We are ■ assured that the aim is to develop a "tree sense" and a "love of trees" in our children, and with. this objective in' view, the children attending Silver- stream,, Trentham, and Upper Hutt schoola were asked to co-operate with the Council in its Arbor Day street planting. It is to be hoped that the children will protest arid watch with pride . the growth at the-trees they . themselves, have planted. .■Undoubtedly the Council is. to 'be complimented for its efforts in this direction.
