Be kind fo animals Does your dog need glasses [Newspaper Article] — El Sereno Star — 14 May 1964
Be kind fo animals Does your dog need glasses It was '*Be Kind to Animals Week,” recently you know. Mayor Sam Yorty so proclaimed it The gentleman dog in the picture above (whose name is Sam too), heartily approves of it For be spectacled Sam (who belongs to Dorothea and Bill Cortese of El Sereno) every day is “Be Kind to Sam” week. He sort of rules the roost and gets what he woofs for. Although he’s not near sighted, he insists upon wearing glasses, gives him a touch of the intellectual, he thinks. When you try to remove, them he growls. Not only that, but he lines qp with tbs rest of the family at tooth-brushing time, thoroughly enjoying the taste of toothpaste. Sam shuns usual doggish pastimes and prefers to do just what the family does ... watch TV or even drink beer. He has his own mug with his name on it No kibble or canned doggie bits for this kid. He wants to eat exactly what the family does, Including bananas, peach and vegetable salad. EQUALITY The most effective safeguard...
Ask gas rate reduction here [Newspaper Article] — El Sereno Star — 14 May 1964
Ask gas rate reduction here Southern California natural gas users will divide a $4.75 million (m) rate reduction beginning July 1 if the California Public Utilities Commission (PUC) approves a plan submtted by Southern California and Southern Counties Gas Companies. The reduction will be the fourth passed along to local gas users in the past sixteen months. The latest cut will average 50 cents to $X per customer per year. The new savings is a direct result of a reduction in corporate income taxes ordered recently by federal law. Earlier cuts came on adjustments of the rates charged the local gas companies by El Paso Natural Gas Co., one of the major out-of-state suppliers. Added to the three previous rate reductions of some $17.2 million (m), the new cut raises the customer savings to $22 million annually. Justice Is ths insurance we have on our lives, and obedience is tbs premium we pay for it CARELESSNESS Power without responsibility is the key to most serious highway accidents th...

YOUR PHARMACIST SPEAKS <m [Newspaper Article] — El Sereno Star — 14 May 1964
YOUR PHARMACIST SPEAKS <m By Bob Cnychee R Ph. Good news for compulsive nibblers is the thinking among h ‘ soma dietary experts that ntcking six to ten times a day has certain health advantages even though the same kind and amound of food Is eaten. It seems that stoking up the body with copious amounts of food causes it to handle normal foods In an abnormal manner. Tests performer both with human and animal subjects disclosed that two or three large meals daily produce twice the amount of fat and seven times as much hardening at the arteries. Even protein turned to fat when taken in large quantity as compared to n bit at a time. Whether you're a, nibbler or a three squares a dayadvocate, you’ll like the quick, courteous service at PORTOLA PHARMACY'S prescription counter. Prescriptions are a specialty at PORTOLA PHARMACY, 5014 Huntington Drive. Phone CA 6-4171. Free delivery service. He was a good man who went to church and was kind to animate and was a good American. He never meant to do any harm. Ha Just wanted to be left alone and fool around with a contraption that everybody said would never work (at least not uphill). Everybody was very surprised whan the silly thing that yon had to crank to go raaUy want.
