Rhoads, where he pre- aented the cause of Biahop College to a group of friends, a check for •everal thousand dollars was re- ceived at the institution this week. Tuesday night Davidson kept his promise. Although only a Negro, Davidson gave up his life in the performance of his duty. He was slain by Cecil Thorn- brough, white post office robber, who was being held in the Shawnee county jail. Thornbrough crept up behind Davidson while the night jailer and several other prisoners were in a recreation room, cell free. The rob- ber slugged the colored jailer with an impovised blackjack.
