®bf flails Pens. JD K 3V I H O N . SUNDAY MORNING. MIDSUMMER. Around this lovely valley rise Tlie purple bills of Paradise. 0, softly on yon bunks of hazo Her rosy face the summer lays I The argosies of cloudland He, Becalmed along the azure sky WUobo stores with many a shining rift. Far-oft their pearl-white peaks uplift. Through all the long midsummer day The meadow sides are sweet with hay. I seek the coolest sheltered seat, Just where the Held and forest meet- Where grow the pine-trees tall and bland. The ancient oaks austere and grand, The fringv roots and pebbles fret The ripples of the rivulet. I watch the mowers as they go Through the tall grass, a white-sleeved row; With even stroke their scythes they swing, In tune their merry whetstones ring. Behind the nimble youngsters run, And toss the thick swaths In the sun; The cattle graze; while warm and still. Slopes the broad pasture, basks the hill, And bright, when summer breezes break, The green wheat crinkles like a lake. Th...

3?hc JJaihj JXcws. Tlio State Tiekot. DlUlNIwOIV, WEDNESDAY AUGUST 7, 1S7S 1 lie Congressional convention for this district meets in Fort Worth to- day. The Greenback ers hold their State convention at Waco to-day. Tliey will probably nominate a full ticket, that is provided there are enough influential men in the party to make up the ticket. The shadow of the "dark horse" will hardly fall upon the convention. The chairman of the State Green- back executive committee has advi- ces that over four hundred clubs will be represented in the State con- vention of the party, which is called to meet at Waco on the 7th of Au- gust. Something like one thousand delegates are expected to be present. It is to be regretted that a spirit of bitterness still pervades a portion of the State press over the result of the Austin convention. This ought not to be. It is only giving aid and comfort to the enemies of the Dem- ocratic party. It was right and proper that every Democrat should have his person...
