Advice to our Young Readers. Lady !?•- Allow no time to pass without brightening some one's life. Within five minutes' walk of you there is some one tragedy com- pared with which Shakespeare's King Lear or Victor Hugo's Jean Valjan has no power. Go out and brighten somebody's life with a cheering word or smile or a flower. Take a good book and read a chapter to that blind man. Go up that dark al- ley and make that invalid woman láugh with some good sto^y. Go to that house from which that child has been taken by death and tell the father and mother \^hat an escape the chid has had $*om the winter of earth into $ie springtime of heaven, i Young women, live to make Others happy, and you will"'be ijappy! The Church and Charity. Florence Vidette: As we tee it, Christianity in these days has gone entirely too much to form. What's the use of preaching: eternal salvation to a man who is cold and hungry? What are the churches doing for the refief of those who need help? One good deed done in the name of the church is worth more to that church than all the fine sermons that could be preached by the most learned theologians. But did it ever occur to you the man who belongs to a church and remains in good standing is seldom "cold and hungry and without mon- ey?" The church probably could and should do a good deal more than it does do for those who never do anything for it, but this fact remains: That those who belong to a church, who live up to its ordinances and at- tend its services are rarely re- duced...
