Ap FEATURES 3 Thursday Named Doc Beazley Day On Campus By Steve Zimmer A man who has been an institution at Hardin-Simmons University was appreciated Thursday April 22 as the day was officially designated "Doc Beazley Day." Dr. William O. "Doc" Beazley has a long history on the Torty Acres." He went to Bridgewater College and received a doctorate degree in education from Southwestern Seminary. In 1948 he arrived at HSU to fill a teaching capacity. From that point on he has met the challenge of a variety of roles. He has since served at one time or another as director of Institutional Services assistant to the president acting dean of faculty acting athletic director director of public relations and director of admissions. Since 1981 he has been in charge of the Six White Horses and anything else involving HSU's western image. In addition he has authored several books. Success has hit both the men's and women's tennis teams as they won their respective District VIII titles last week on the HSU Courts. Both teams will compete at the National Tournament in Kansas City May 24-29. The Women recorded 99 points enroute to the team title. Tarleton State came in with 48. Diana Lowery won the singles title over teammate Davone Davonport. Lowery teamed up with her sister Melody to win the doubles championship. The men cruised to their District title with a 30 point victory over Howard Payne. Corby Flanagan won the singles competition defeating his teammate Kyle Canon.
