At Thursday's court before Mr Read Murphy, P.M,i and local magistrates; Jennie Campbell was charged with having for sale oil May 9th, x8Jloaves of bread 15 ozs. short, and 15 loaves - 14 ozs short. Mr Seconib prosecuted for the Footseray Council. M. C. Whitehead, city inspector, stated that- on May 9th he stopped one of defendant's carts in Gamon street and weighed 18 loaves of bread, and found them r5 ozs short. On the same day he stopped another of her carts in Ovens street and found 1,5 loaves 14 o.s short. iFOOTSCRAY HAR MONIO SO&'IETY. Another enjoyable concert was given by the above society in the Federal Hall, Footscray, last Tuesday evening, when Romberg's " Lay of the Bell " was presented ; the latter part of the pro gramme consisting of mniscellaneous Items. In keeping with the subject of the cantata, the stage was tastefully decorated with bells suspended from the ceiling. The artists engaged were Miss Anne \Villiams, soprano; Miss Tootell, contralto; Mr Arthur Andrew, tenor; Mr J. Hill, buritone; aind Mrl W. *Smith, bass. All were in good voice, and dehghted the large audience with the rendition of their various iparts. Miss Williamns sang the solprano solos most effectively, her voice, especially in the higher notes, ringing out clearly Sand with great sweetness, while Mr Andrew rendered the tenor piart with true tone.
