THE ATHLETIC SPORTS. (BY OUR OWN REPORTER.) THE winter meeting of our Athletic Sports on the Melbourne C. C. ground on Saturday, was well attended, there being about 10,000 persons within the fences, inclusive of the vice-regal party, and probably 6,000 more out side taking advantage of the vantage ground offered by the Hill side to see the sports f on the cheap.' The fine ness of the day and the announced ex hibition of the vehicular novelties which are at present crazing all and sun dry appeared to have exercised a most extraordinary attraction, and Mel bourne to a man-to say nothing of a large number of ladies-got upon wheels, for the above ground or Crox ton Park where there was a similar competition. The saddling paddock, so to speak, of the M.C.C. ground received large patronage in persons of an enquiring turn of mind-ladies included-anx ious to take a look at the spidery look ing affairs whieh were to compete and certes there was as considerable avariety as engineering skill ...

TEA MEETING AND. CONCEKT. On Thursday evening pleasant reunion took place ; in.; itne Emerald Hill Orderly Room, the pro ceeds being devoted to the Emerald. Hill Benevolent Society.
