What Happened to Jones [Newspaper Article] — Chronicle and North Coast Advertiser — 13 November 1903

What Happened to Jones A man named John Jones, who was a passenger by the goods train going to Brisbane on Thursday evening last, had a most miraculous escape from serioits injury, if not death. It appears that the train, as is the usual custom when shunt ing has to be done, pulled up at- the W pombye station, and this more often than otherwise means that the carriage stands on the b 'idge which crosses Paynter's Creek. To permit of the gua rd leaving his van to attend to his duties, two planks run acros; one side of the bridge, but Mr. Jones, uncon sciously 've presume, wish ing to alight,' chose the op posite side, the result being that he fell a distance of some 20ft. or more. He soon re gained himself, however, and made hasje up to the railway station, wljiere he reported the affair, and at the same time sought the names of the offi cials in chjirge of the train, and further inquired as to the nearest medical officer get atable. He resumed the jour-, uey by the same train, and o...

Odd Notes. [Newspaper Article] — Chronicle and North Coast Advertiser — 13 November 1903

Odd Notes. Bv Ar.AKic the Goth.) Treasurer Kidston is opening the eyes j of the public to the many abuses per- ; petrated by the I'hilp Government, and ? ck-serves every credit for so clearly plac- ? ing the true state of financial atTuirs be- ; fort Oueen-!auders. It is an object-lesson : to note the impertinent and spiteful attacks that have been made upon him by 1 almost all the ex-Ministers, who have now shown their trut character in thtir recent buffoonery. Fancy the quiet, foxy I'liilp developing into the inflated, long winded obstructionist that he has proved ! himself to be during the last few days ?? Rut the clothure flattened him out, which i is another instance of the biter being ; bitten. Attorney-General Blair was quite ', right in not appointing any more judges. ; as the State is simply . over-run with . judges and judicialTunctionarics; and it ! was pleasing to note in the divisions that | he 'was well supported in his desire to , economise.
