TURF NOTES: The members of the Townsville Turf Club wijl .be pleased to learn that, on a rough estimate based on the approxi mate receipts this year as compared with those of last, ami the assumption that the expenditure was about equal to that of 190G— the profit over the re cent annual will probably run Into about £825. During the first two months of this season's flat-racing in England nothing by Isinglass won a race. Last season Isinglass was seventh on the winning stallions' list with £13.521. The French four-year-old Maintc non, who has been roll red from the turf, cost Mr Vanderbllt £924 as a year ling, and won him £30,331 in stakes. In all, Malntenon won 11 races out of 16 starts, and only once missed a place. A strained tendon brought about his retirement.

CUBKEKl! CHAT. That coal lumpers' strike in Sydney, seems to be assuming dangerous pro portions, now that the ladies propose to take a hand. The connection between coal-lumpers and tallorcsscs isn't quite apparent at first blush, but the fair strikers know where to strike a man in a weak spot when they threaten to atop the sup ply of his 'unmentionables.' Thank goodness there will still be the kilt left, but Chatterer sincerely trusts the ladies will relent and give us back our— you know— before the mosquito season comes round again.
