Travelling Stock. TROUBLE IN THE MALLEE. [Newspaper Article] — Ouyen Mail and Central Mallee Advertiser — 4 September 1914

Travelling Stock. TROUBLE IN THE MALLEE. Settlers in the Mallee have made numerons complaints to the Minis ter for Lands (Mr Lawson) of the damage done to their hold;ngs by travelling stcck which are in search of pasture, owing to the dry con ditions. The department has as certained that in some cases settlers who have no stock of their own have allowed the travelling stock on -their areas, apparently for a consideration. Such an action is a breach of the conditions of their leases, unless the consent of the Minister is first received. o iar I as is possible the departrment is discouraging the introdctian of stock into the dry portions of the Mallee. The oflficers are ofopinion that the limaited water supply in the catchments is needed by settlers who are making their hones in the neighborhood. Crown lauds bailiffs have been instructed to in list that travelling steck observe the provisions of the law, and where trespass on Crown lands is deliberately made prosecutions are to be ins...
