Tram to Thornton. A deputation was introduced by Mr Cookson, M.L.A., from the Alexandra Shire Council, on W?ednesday, asking for the construotion of a tramway from Alexandra, at the terminus of the railway line, now under construc tion, towards the Rubicon Forest, near Thornton. Mr J. W. Leckie estimated the cast of the line at £T7,500, and anticipated that it would yield a profit. Provision was made in these estimates for a sinking fund, to repay capital expenditure in six years. There was timber in tim forests of the district to the value of £18,000,000 provided it could be carried out at moderato rates. Several other speakers emphasised the value of the timber in the district Mr Billson, in reply, said that it was the duty of the Ministry to do .everything possible to develop. local industries. .
