Wingello. [Newspaper Article] — The Scrutineer and Berrima District Press — 14 October 1892

Wimgello. (From Our Correspondent.)   We are enjoying beautiful weather at present although the days are getting warm and the snakes are beginning to come about. A fettler working up this direction told me that he saw a snake a few days ago about seventeen feet long. This is rather tall, but our worthy friend is to be excused. He   had been to a temperance meeting the previous night. I am given to understand that Mr. James Jeffery, of Wingello, and Miss Ada Pope, of Paddy's river, have consented to travel through life together hand- | in -hand. Tho happy event I believe takes place to-day, and the Rev. Mr. Mosely from Marulan is going to tie the sacred knot. We wish the happy pair success, and life long happiness. Bomballaway. [Newspaper Article] — The Scrutineer and Berrima District Press — 14 October 1892

Bomballaway. By the Kangaroo Rat. As I was hopping about Pine Grove last Friday night I was attracted by the sound of very charming music to tho old   Bomballaway House now belonging to Mr John Morrice, and being rather an inquisitive animal I hopped and hopped till I came to a window through which I could see a beautifully decorated room thronged with young ladies and gentlemen apparently enjoying themselves.   Hopping around to tho door I inquired what it was all about and was informed by a gentleman that the bachelors of   Bomballaway were giving a social to their friends. Another hop or two brought me into the room where I spent a very pleasant evening. Music, singing, and dancing, entertained a company of about 20 couples. The musicians were Messrs. Ferguson, Warburton, Jeffrey, and Clout, and the music was very good, especially the violin and flute. Dancing was kept up till twelve o'clock   when all adjourned to another room ...

THE NEW MAGISTRATES AND HOTEL LICENSES. (To the Editor). [Newspaper Article] — The Scrutineer and Berrima District Press — 18 October 1892

THE NEW MAGISTRATES AND HOTEL LICENSES. (To the Editor J. ? Sir,— When the new lists of magis' rates, gazetted last nnd this week, were decided upon, the Ministry must have lost sight in .severul cases that no magistrate is allowed by law to .hold a publican's license, ns, to my knowledge, was coveral times decided during the last 25 years. One case will bo sufficient to be quoted to show I am right. 'When the late Mr. Horry Badgery, who was in his day looked upon as one of tho best magistrates of the territory, and who resided in tho Berrima district, at Sutton Forest, became a licensed publican at Mujnr's Creek, he had to resign his appointment as magis trate ; but no sooner had ho ceased to be a boniface his name was immediately restored to the list of Js P. This was a short time before his death. I was intimately acquainted with him and now state what I know is a fant and a matter of colonial history. I am, -tc , An Old Colonist. October 15.
