It seems that the price of bran has more than doubled in eight or nine years . Farmers are actually selling wheat at from twenty to twenty-four dollars per ton and buying brari at from twenty-six to twenty-eight dollars per ton . This is an illustration of the difficulties that many fanners have in adjusting themselves to changed conditions . Because wheat is not sold by the ton , but by the bushel , farmers have been in the habit of figuring bushels , but bran has always been sold by the ton . Still , when a farmer unloads his wheat and loads up with bra...

The whole proposition will be strangled by the express companies unless the farmers wake up- The express companies • in the United State s are doing the parcel carrying businessof the country , ttnd they have no intention of relinquishing their hold on this business until it is taken away from them by force , and it will have to be a pretty strong force to do it . m & mmm ^ mmmmm ^ r ^ mm M gf Orchard and Garden | 1 ^ t ^ immmmmmmmmmmmm ^^^ FAULTY SPRAYING By H . A . Franklin LAST summer , while passing a large field of potatoes , I stopped to see a sprayer at work . The man had . the nozzles sb low that thex bent the vines over and occasionally dragged on the ground , with the result that more than half of the spraying material was lost , and occasionally a nozzle would choke up , and . part of the row would be neglected before the driver found it out . The trouble was the man had an extra tall horse , and to make matters worse , he was using part of a double set of harness . He had no regular straps-for holding the shafts , so he poked them , through the back hand loops above the traces . This tilted the sprayer back so far that the nozzles wouldn t work right Sometimes sprayers are made without proper adjustment for the liozzles , but no matter how well a machine is gotten up it will never work right in the hands of a stupid ma...

The Grange [Newspaper Article] — Farm Press — 1 February 1908

The Grange A GRICULTURE is the oldest industry , but it is the last to be learned . There is so much to it that every people of every country have worked at it through successive generations and the best of us are still just working on the surface , but we have succeeded in warding off such terrible famines as have been common in other centuries . The next problem will be how to secure a more equitable distribution of profits . The man who does the hard work shouljd get the money , instead , of the men who do the distributing . The Grange has 75 , 000 , members in New York state and the Grange cooperative insurance companies have $ 370 , 000 , 000 in risks , with rates much lower than those of the old line companies . The United States Civil Service Commission announces an examination on February 5 th to fill a vacancy in the position of scientific assistant at $ 720 per annum in the Bureau of Fisheries . This position is open to men only , twenty years of age or over . Apply to the...
