A Herd Boar for Sale [Newspaper Article] — Berkshire World and Cornbelt Stockman — 1 July 1910
A Herd Boar for Sale Mr . C . B . Gracy , of Culleoka , Tenn ., is offering for sale in this issue , his herd boar , Artful Belle s Champion , who is a son of Rivals Champion and a litter mate to Rival s Champion Best , that sold in the recent Kinloch sale for $ 710 . 00 . This is an all around good boar and Mr . Gracy is disposing of him , not on account of any fault found with the boar , but because he has some splendid young boars coming on that he can use in his place , and he needs a new infusion of blood . Mr . Gracy has some excellent pigs by Artful Belle s Champion now and all the sows bred to him last winter averaged 11 % to the litter . This boar is certainly well bred and is an approved breeder and anyone wanting something along this line will do well to address Mr . C . B . Gracy , Culleoka , Tenn .
Spring Pigs Elegant [Newspaper Article] — Berkshire World and Cornbelt Stockman — 1 July 1910
Spring Pigs Elegant Auxvasse , Mo . The Berkshire World , Springfield , 111 . Gentlemen : —I will not try to answer Mr . Russwurm , but like him , would like to know why there is an . objection to a swirl on a good hog . Now I have rarely ever had them on my hogs , all being smooth , but would certainly not discard a good sow with it if good in every other respect , any more than I would with black tail or foot . - I think these little frills will have to be gotten over , and look more to the form and general make up for practical use in the barrel instead of these foolish fancies if we compete with other breeds . My spring pigs are elegant litters from Auxvasse Duchess 50 th by Cock Robin 77782 . Robin s Laurel by Cock Robin , Fancy Tip by Cock Robin , Robin s Fancy Tip by King Premier 2 d 70741 , and Robin s Fancy Tip and Robin s Fancy 6 th by King Premier 2 d . They Say They Like Them [Newspaper Article] — Berkshire World and Cornbelt Stockman — 1 July 1910
They Say They Like Them Creighton , Mo . The Berkshire World , Springfield , 111 . I thought that perhaps the readers of The Berkshire World , and also my customers , might be interested in knowing something of the present condition of my herd , and also of my business the past few months . To begin with , I must say that since the first of the year I have had the best trade I ever had , and also must say that at present I have the best bunch of pigs I ever bred . These pigs are sired mostly by Berry s Choice , one litter by one of the noted sons of Masterpiece , and also some by Columbus Victor , out of daughters of Berrys Choice . My sows this spring , including gilts , have farrowed from nine to thirteen pigs , and saved on an average of a little better than eight . Mostly litters of eight , and no sow on the farm has fallen below nine farrowed , and eight saved . Pretty good record is it not ? Among the early litters , is one by Berrys Choice out of a Lord Lee sow . There were t...
The Berkshire Not a Fence Break er or Chicken Eater . [Newspaper Article] — Berkshire World and Cornbelt Stockman — 1 July 1910
The Berkshire Not a Fence Break er or Chicken Eater . Canton , Miss . The Berkshire World and Cornbelt Stockman , Springfield , 111 . Gentlemen : —We have received a copy of your Berkshire World and Cornbelt Stockman and like the paper very much . On account of some good fellow s entering for us a seven month s subscription we wont take the paper until this time expires although if all copies are like the one you sent , dont see how we can be without it and raise the Berkshire hog . We are greenies at the business and are trying to introduce the Berkshire in this section ( immediate ) and find that there exists a lot of prejudice ; people claiming all sorts of things against the Berkshire , such as fence breakers , chicken eaters , vicious and the like . The Poland Chinas are decidely in favor here and if you can give me some information relative to the comparison of the two breeds , it will be appreciated . Also if you are in a position to do so , tell us where we can purchase a pr...

It is just the thing for whitewashing and spraying poultry houses . Red Label Lice Killer will kill all the poultry lice and mites and is a fine Disinfectant . I would not be without either of the above .
His Ad in The Berkshire World Gave Hiram Abiff Another Home . [Newspaper Article] — Berkshire World and Cornbelt Stockman — 1 July 1910
His Ad in The Berkshire World Gave Hiram Abiff Another Home . Editor Berkshire World , Springfield , 111 . My Dear Sir : —My advertisement with you brought several responses , all inquiring about the yearling boar I offered for sale . As a consequence I have sold Hiram Abiff to Mr . B . J . Barker , Thorntown , Ind . The price paid was a good one , as I never sell a good hog for a short price . Mr . Barker intends to exhibit Hiram this Fall , and will have all of them guessing , when he walks him into the ring . I believe that he will add to the laurels he won in the under twelve month s class , when he won first at the Tennessee State Fair , in one of the best rings that faced a judge last year . Hiram Abiff is a son of the Grand Champion of the Berkshire Congress Show of last year , Lee s Artful Premier 12 th , as great a breeding boar as lives , the boar that I sold to Mr . J . W . Russwurm of Nashville , Tenn ., as a Junior yearling . Just as soon as Russwurm got hold of him , h...
Two Great Sows and a Show Boar . [Newspaper Article] — Berkshire World and Cornbelt Stockman — 1 July 1910
Two Great Sows and a Show Boar . On another page of this issue you will see the advertisement of W . D . Mooney , offering for sale a great show and herd boar , Wonderful 121171 , and two great sows , Longfellow Duchess X . and Artful Belle 2 d . In a recent letter to this office Mr . Mooney writes as follows : Wonderful won the blue ribbon in the under six months class at the Kentucky State Fair , last fall , and has developed beyond even the promise of his pighood . I paid Marley Riley $ 200 . 00 for him at four months old . If 1 am any judge of a hog , he will make one of the great hogs of the breed . The two sows are well known to the breeding world . The first is the sow that J . M . Wilks bought for $ 900 . 00 ; she is not a show sow , but is a wonderful brood sow , and is an excellent individual in every way . She will have an early October litter to the service of the great Russwurm boar , Lee s Artful Premier 12 th . The second of the two sows is one of the best individuals...

NEW BOOK ON SWINE By Prof . WM . DIETRICH , Chief in Swine Husbandry at the Illinois Experiment Station A Thoroughly Up-to-date , Practical Book on SWINE . It contains more than 300 pages and is fully illustrated . All breeds are historically considered and their commercial merits discussed . All breeding problems and practices are subjected to an edifying analysis , with applicable deductions . Economical pork production is the authors central thought , and in working that subject into a practical system he has incorporated a mass of new and original data . The management of breeding herds , feeding for market , house plans and diseases are adequately treated . Very readably printed on high-grade paper and strongly bound , the physical make-up of the volume is in consonance with...
