And it is not much to the credit of Amer ican gardeners and farmers that they have never recognized the- services of this helpful and innocent little reptile Nature conducts her operations by re ciprocal menns, and if she gives us the hurtful insects to cat up our crops she also'givesus the birds, toads, etc., to eat up the insects.
