The leaves aye obovate-spatulate, auricu late at the narrowed base, he lp; imooth, entire, about eight or. nine inches long, and about five or six broad above, much narrower below, and ending at the base in peculiar ear-shaped lobe's: The petals - are pure white. The foliage is of a beautiful .(light ; green' color. The ruit somewhat resembles that of the Magnolia Macro plylla, but is rather smaller. RED MULBERRY.—[Morus Rubra.] Ia the New England States this tree is raroly met with.but it is quito abundant in the Mid die aud Western States, where in favorable locations it form's tolerably large, wide spread ing, horizontally branched, el fin-ant tree. The leaves - are "o I very large, cordate, hairy be neath. and scabrous above, giving the tree a bold and strong appearance. Catkins cylindrical. The fruit is a deep Kiirnla. beinc very sweet and delicious, ripening late in Ufav or earlv in June. The Red Mulberry sometimes at tains the height of forty or even fifty feet, it is almost always found growing in deep, rich mellow soil. The wood is of the tery first quality when fully seasoned, assuming a dull lemon colored hue, and is near ly, If not quite, equal to that of the Locust or Live Oak for all purposes, it is not only dur able but exceedingly beautiful.
