All's Well that Ends Well. A remarkable illustration of the proverb .that ' there's many a elip 'twixt the cup and the lip." occurred at Grand Junction during the past week. It seems that a young lady .named Pledge had been "pledged' ' to a gent leman named Hunt, bv her parents, but rre- ferred another who rejoiced in the name of Jennings. The election last Saturday for .Suite Sena tor, to fill the vacancy occasioned -by the resignation of N. A..D. Bryant, no doubt re sulted in the choko ol our fellow citizen, James. C. Fleming. The vote in Hardeman was, for Fleming, 582; for Aldrige, radical, IT; three votes scattering. Our information from McNairy is that FlemiDg beat Aldrige" at least two to one, and hence the deduction that James C. Fleming is elected, ami if bo, will make a most useful and energetic repre sentative in the halls of Legislation. Since the above waa pat in type we have seen a letter from the sheriff of McNairy to a gentleman here, which states that Flem ing's majority over Aldrige in that county is one hundred and forty. No doubt of Flem ing's election now, and we are all glad of it. The municipal election last Saturday re sulted as follows: For Alde...
