TEACHERS’ INSTITUTE. [Newspaper Article] — Sausalito News — 21 May 1885

TEACHERS’ INSTITUTE. In our last issue we gave s summary of the work done during the first two days of the Teachers' Convention at San Rafael. As this work has a direct bearing on our public schools, we believe that the exercises of the remaining days of the session will be of interest to our readers. A lecture entitled "London Illustrated" was given at the "Wigwam" on Tuesday evening, by Prof. J. C. Gibson, Superintendent of the Oakland city schools. By aid of a steriopticon the lecturer entertained his audience with fine illustrations of noted places in the great metropolis, The lecture being full of interest and instruction was throughly enjoyed by all who attended. On Wednesday morning the entire time from roll call to recess was occupied by Mr. Furlong of Richardson in an exposition of "Fourth Reader work." A critical review of the Fourth Readers used in our schools was made with the view of showing their deficiency in furnishing the quality of reading matter suitable. It was s...
