I riKhT NATIONAL HANK, ice its ivnunlice. H 4 ilecison hut denoun Col. Rufus Cage, who has been a prominent member of the Houston Third Ward Greenback Club, kick- ed out of the traces Thursday night. In a speech before the club he stated that he had been a devoted greenback man for several years but he couldn't endorse the fifth plank of the platform, which demands that aH U. S. bonds be called in immediately, and paid in legal ten- ders. The Colonel said all the des- potisms of Europe couldn't accom- plish that feat. There were eighteen hundred millions of bonds, and if that amount of greenbacks were issued, the bondholders would come to Washington and take them away# by the carload. Then they would buy up all the choice lrfnd in the country. Next the greenbacks would depreciate and in less than sixty days...

r t ♦ line gPailtf ^ruo. DKNISON, SUNDAY MORNING-. KKKB AND THEltE. Beer-hardens have proved a failure in Boston. 1'asting pictures on curtains of Japanese silk is a late pastime. Bask-hall doesn't take in Germany, and there are no clubs in the country. Cyprus, just transferred to England, is about as largo as Connecticut. Next in point of meanness to doing an injury is to do a man a favor and ev- ery now and then remind him of it. The precious metals of the world for coinage and art amount to $18,000,- 000,000. The once famous Mormon temple at Nauvoo, 111., has utterly disappeared, not a stone of it remaining on the site. The recent earthquake that destroyed Loreto, Lower California, continued without interruption for seven days. The head of a Boston man is wider than it is long. He wears a silk hat, with one of the sides in front, and the effect is comical. Among the mechanical toys at the Paris Exposition, are dolls that swim, dive and tread water after the most ap- proved human ...

ettfs. DENISON. TUESDAY JULY 30, 1878. H A Mvt papers in tliis district have begun to talk about Throckmorton for Congress. Mr. Throckmorton, when he entered the race for Gov- ernor, premised his friends publicly that under no circumstances would he be a candidate for congress. Now let him .abide by his decision. There are other men in the district just as capable as Mr. Throckmorton for this position. A man is not wanted in Congress that is so greedy lor office that he is a candidate for every gift "within his reach. Mr. Throckmorton was de- feated lor the position to which he aspired, and for which he surrender- ed all claims on the people for re- election to Congress, and we are satisfied he has too much self-respect anil too much honor to allow his name to go before the Fort Worth convention. Judge A. B. Norton, of Dallas, having been frequently mentioned as a probable independent candidate for Governor, a reporter of the Com- mercial interviewed him on the sub- ject. The Judge ...

The Dallas Ileralil publishes a letter from Terrell, which says that lion. J. K. Bumpus will not accept of the greenback nomination for congress from this district, and that he will publish a card to that ctl'ect in a day or two. His reasons, which will appear in his letter, are the great pressure of business, want of time, etc., together with the fact that he is opposed to dividing the Democratic ranks. While he is heart and hand with thq greenback movement, he is inclined to the belief that the great mass of workers can sooner accom- plish their aims by a strict adherence to the platforms of the Democracy, as set forth by the old party. His letter will 110 doubt be read with deep interest by his old friends in Kaufman, Hunt, Rockwell and Col- lin, where he has lived for thirty years.
