Footscray Cricket Club Concert. [Newspaper Article] — Independent — 6 October 1883

Footscray Cricket Club Concert. It is always agreeable when both sides are satisfied, and we are certain that the members of the Cricket Club and those who patronised them have equal reason to be pleased with the two nights concert given on Monday and Tuesday evenings. Financially the proceeds will go a long way in carrying out the laudable object of erecting a pavilion for the use of mem- bers and the convenience of visitors, and as a musical entertainment it must be classed as one of the best ever given in the borough. About three months ago the club gave a concert, at which they were fortunate enough to get attractive talent, but as they did not derive much pecuniary assistance from it, their committee on this occasion very wisely deter- mined to hold a two night concert and gift distribution; and they must be congratulated on the success of the undertaking, due solely to their excellent management and hard labors. Nothing that was wanted was left undone. The concert was well adv...

-"ONWARI) AND UPWARD." ]FooTscRAY, SATURDAY, OcrpneK 6, 1883 Building Society. OUR previous remarks on the advant ages of establishing, a local Building Society have apparently met the public viers; arid from the very cordial inan her in which they have been endorsed .generally, it.would appear as if. the, time was ripe for the primary steps ;being taken towards such an object: O-n all hainds se hear of, support' being pro mised; addi manyi gentlemen i?vould in all. probability.i take investing. shares, and so lend the weight of their position and interest to initiate; 'the .movenient on a sound basis;, and in reliable 'hainds. CRICKET. WERRIBEE v. KOROROIT. [Newspaper Article] — Independent — 13 October 1883

CRICKET. WERRIS:EE V. KOROROIT, The above match was played at Wyndham on Saturday, 6th inst., and was productive of much enjoyment to the members of both teams. Wyndham went first to the wickets, and totted up 62-a respectable total, considering the state of the wicket. Armstrong played a good innings lor .22, and David scored t5, the latter innings being marred by a couple of chances. tlabb bowled splendidly for K.C.C., taking nine of the Wyndham wickets at a cost of about 32 runs. The first essay.of the KC.C, registered 40 runs, of which Babb made in by careful cricket. The bowling of Armstrong and J. Bcamish was too good to allow any liberties on the part of the batsmen, and will account for the inability of any other Kororoit batsman reaching double figures. J. Rogers' fielding for WVyndham was much admired. At their second attempt the Wyndhamites im proved very much, and kept their opponcnls leather chasing for the remainder of the after noon, scoring 128 for the loss of 6 wick...
