$0Mmt ERADIOATING STUMPS. IluralNew Yorker. Tire choapost and moat effective way is to : blast thorn out with cartridges of giant ?powder. This explosive is a preparation of mtro-glycorino, jnany times as powerful as ?common powder, and its groat force, being i very uuddon in its uction, tears tho stumps, to fragraonts, so that hut little, if any, after l cutting is required to disposo of them. The ? giant powder is put up in cartridges about ;10 inohos long by 1 1-2 in diameter, and |thoso, being of tho consistence of cheese, can' ;bo cut into pieces, of tho sizo required, with ' a lcniio. A pioco two inohos long is sufficient ;to throw out a good-sized stump. A holo is punched under tho stump with a crow-bar; tlio explosive, with the proper fuso and ful minating cap a'ttaahed, is put in tho holo, water is poured in as tamping, nnd the fuse is firod. Tho explosion throws tho etump out in several piecon, leaving tho holo to bo filled up afterwards. Exports havo tabou : out 100 stump...
