OUR OHE0 LE'IER. (FROM OUn owN connESPONDENT.) Friday, May 12. To-morrow night the long pending dis puto as to which horse won the Maiden Flate at our late race meeting will be set tled, as a special meeting of the stewards a to be held for that purpose. In my humble opinion the question at issue is, wvhether according to the V.R.C. rules it is necessary to state the amount of the prize in the programme to constitute the event an advertised race. If this be so, then without doubt the money belongs to IKepla, and if not so, Moonlight is the winner. It is some time now since the members of the Gippsland Mining Board represent ing Omeo took action to have the warden visit this district at least once a month. Simultaneously the Omeoo Shire Council agitated for more frequent visits of the police magistrate. Since then four extra stipendiary magistrates have been ap pointed by the Government, but so far as Omeo is concerned the visits of the warden and P.M. have been the same. Having in v...

OUR SWAN REACH LETTER. Monday, May 15. [Newspaper Article] — Bairnsdale Advertiser and Tambo and Omeo Chronicle — 16 May 1882

OUR SWAN REACHI LEII'ER. (FROM OUR OWI CORRESPONDO1NT.) , Monday, May 15. A team of cricketers from Bruthen came down on Saturday last to try conclusions with the local knights, and they were, [ understand, the best team that the visitots could muster. - The Brothen men went first to the wickets, and were all disposed of for 29 runs. The t,.t.l men were scarcely more fortunate, as they only succeeded in getting one run ahead of their opponents, so that at this stage of the game it looked likely to be a close and exciting contest. After lunch the local men went to the wickets, and made a better stand, putting up 105 runs, J. Vi pond 43, D. Brennan 15 not out, and W. Vipond 14, being the principal scorerss. With 107 to make to win and only three-quarters of an hour to get them in, a drawn game ap peared inevitable, but this idea was soon set aside when wicket after wicket fell to the bowling of WV. Vipond ,he getting 4 wickets in an over, and all were disposed of for the ridiculously ...
