fVielboume Letter. la'CKUVf." ON ITS AUMOL'H. The Labour Party is buckling on its armour for the double dissolution campaign. Some of the members of that paitv express tin* opinion that tin; (GovernorUeneral would not in tin.: riruumstam.-es be likely to grant any such request. It is very question able, however, whether th*:rt; is not a strong reservation at the back of the minds of those venturing such a pre diction. It must assuredly be realised that the basic principle is that the business of the country must go on : (hat business must net be hurh d into chaos and confusion for purely Party reasons. Again, that some wav must, therefore, be found out of t ho present impasse. As Mr. Fisher, leader of the Opposition, is shortly to mount the Commonwealth stamp from which# it is announced he will " make the v. hole situation clear to the elec tors, ' Uie latler "will not bo able to complain that their political education is not being attended to. So many Liberal and Labour delegates a...

Charity Concert. l'or some reason or oilier the public did not. respond to the call mado '>y the committee on Friday night laskfor the relief of Mrs D. Mitchell and fafiiily of seven children. Their circumstances h.'ivo been made widely known—the breadwinner an inmaje of a lunatic asylum, and the wife and young family totally unprovided for. Four of the young children lmvo been boarded out to the mother by the State at live shillings per week, and to provide a decent start a committee was formed for the purpose of soliciting aid and controlling the fund. Over .£10 has already been subscribed, u considerable amount of which came from outside districts, the townspeople h iving pretty well held aloof. Some advanced very trivial reason;, fears being expressed that the money would bo squandered, but the fact was made plain that the committee would see that the fund was judiciously administered. Before fin ally closing the fund a concert was or ganised, and the services of .Mrs. Daniel...

CRICKET. YARRAM V. ALBERTON. [Newspaper Article] — Gippsland Standard and Alberton Shire Representative — 11 March 1914

CRICKET. Y ARK AM V. ALDKKTON. The above match was resumed on the Yarrain show ground, when the Alberton contingent had a lead of 8.1 on the lirst innings, owing in a great measure to the little interest by certain players of the Yarrain club, which is disheartening to true "stickers" in the team. The Yarramers after a very poor stand 011 the previous Saturday, knocked up over a century on the second day's play, the final wicket fall ing for 130, the chief contributor being P. Taylor, who knocked up the credit able score (not out) in great style. Alberton then went to the wickets and scored .'i 1 for the loss of two wickets, and time being called, the mutch whs won on the iirst innings, C. Morse be ing top scorer with 1 •">.
