MELBOURNE. FRIDAY. A man named Bullock murdered his wife at Eiclimond early this morning, und after wards committed suicide. It appears tliat the parties hud lately been living separately, but last night Mrs. Bullock called on her husband; and {the landladyj of the house whore he was stopping, leaving.the place for a while, found, on hor return, that everything was quiet. Going to the room'occupied by Bullock and his wife, she found a murder hud been committed. .' The,body of the wo man wbh lying on the bed, hor head smashed in by a hammer and hor throat cut from ear to oar. The hus'band was in a kneeling position by the bed-side, and it was, found (hut his throat was also out in such a man ner as to have caused immediate death. This morning information was received by tbo authorities of a fresh case of. small pox, The patient is u Gar man named Ed ward Verdtch, about 30 years of age. He is suffering from the disease in- a oonflucnt form in about tho third or fourth day of its eruption. The house(is situated within fifty yards of tho infected plaoe in Sussex-street, and is in the midst of a number of rookeries inhabited by tho lower classes. Dr. Ride woldt, n German doctor who bad been attending the patient for tho laBt few days, is now quarantined in the infected house, tho police, who, on their arrival, found him about to leave, having ordored him back.
