Pure Water. [Newspaper Article] — The Scrutineer and Berrima District Press — 14 October 1892

IPmi'C Water. The greatest necessity of every day life is puro water, Two-thirds of ouo's body is made up of water. If the water wp drink is impure, then how can wo hope to escape deceased conditions ? It is impossible. The stomach, liver, and kidneys cannot purify polluted water. Some cautious peoplo resort to tho filter for rmrifviuff this water, out even tho filter does not remove this poison, for water of tho most doadly character may pas3 through this and become clear, yet the poison disguised is there. They who use filters know that they must become renewed f-t regular periods, for oven though thoy do not take out all the impurity, they soou bccome foul. Now in like manner tho human klduoys act as a filter for tho blood, and if they aro filled up with impurities and becomo foul like tho filter, all tho blood in the system conraing through them becomes bad, for it io now a conceded fact that thekidneys are the ohief means whepeby the blood is purified. Theso organs aro filled w...

STRAY NOTES. [Newspaper Article] — The Scrutineer and Berrima District Press — 14 October 1892

STRAY MOTES (By Scrutator.) When Alderman Jones (the newly-elected alderman) took his sent nt the council table on Monday evening there was some manifes tation of applause indulged in by his hrothor aldermen. But Alderman Jones was n bit behind time ut this first meeting. It may bo that his bashfulness was the reason, or per haps he supposed that there was some kind of ceremony to be gone through before he could be admitted to the close order of local legislators. At the last council meeting the council clerk read a letter from tho Department of Public Works and when Mr. Clifford reached the place where the sign manual should be lie allowed that it was a hopeless task to road that andhegaveit to the aldermen in an inter locutory style. How small indeed should this highly-paid and not overworked govern- I ment official feel when his signature has to be interpreted as—' Somebody— chief clerk.' Somebody, indeed ! And who evidently wants to hide his name. Is he ashamed of it? » » Vf. Du...

THE RESIDENTIAL CONDITION. (To the Editor of the Scrutineer J. gjr ? Tho Government has at last intro duced' the long promised Electoral Reform Bill which,' in oeveral respects, is a great improvement on thoso previously introduced; but thero is ono point which xvill require careful consideration, that of the term of — nnnflMur? to oecure the electoral i franchise. THE USE OF DISINFECTANTS. (To the Editor of the Scrutineer.) [Newspaper Article] — The Scrutineer and Berrima District Press — 14 October 1892

THE USE OF DISINFECTANTS. (To the Editor of the Scrutineer. J Sii-, — Now that tho hot of blow fly season is coming on npneo allow me through the columns of your widely-read journal to sungpst to the worthy fathers of our village that they follow tho example of Bowral and obtain from Elliot Bros, (cost £8) one ton of disinfectants, for gratuitous distribution and universal use. Prevention is vastly better than cure. Public attention has been greatly roused irf 'this behalf by the papers recently read at the Medical Congress in Sydney, but practice is not:abreast of apprehension ; not from apathy or carolessuess, but we want some education in the matter from men of lWit and leading. When the much-desired course of hygienic lectures are on in Moss T» 1b T lioDB this subject will be thoroughly ventilated:- Meantime a uote from a com petent physician resident among us on the practical and universal use of tho cheapest and readiest disinfectant would bo extremely valuable.— I am, -fcc;, ...
