Cub Gals Upset Tough Villa Team by Dave Ruef Sports Editor Villa hosted a breath-taking game in which Behrend threw Villa an unexpected defeat. Behrend was supposedly ready for the Villians of Villa, but by the third quarter it didn't appear as such. At that time our girls were trailing by five points. Melody Laudensack, coach of the team, called the girls in at once in an attempt to get them together. Villa's team had height and weight over Behrend which placed them high under the boards and gave them dominance on the jump balls, but the tables soon turned. Villa may have dominated under the boards, but it's up and through the basket that counts. It goes without saying, that is exactly what the Behrend girls did to get it together in the fourth quarter. Black Student Union Holds Black Culture Week The Black Student Union of the Behrend Campus sponsored a week of Black Culture, Sunday, April 9 through Friday, April 14; in an attempt to present relevant topics of black culture to the public. Deborah Lomax, president of the Black Student Union, explained her ideas of the concept of the black culture week: "This is the first event that Behrend has ever had. You have to give things a chance. The quality (of the programs ) was bona fide." The first event of the week explained the role of the church in the black struggle for equality, with the Reverend Paul P. Martin, executive director of O.I.C., as speaker. The Singspirations Gospel Choir of the Church of God provided entertainment. The next evening, a panel discussion concerning Black perspectives toward education was held in the Reed Student Union Building. Panelists included Eva Tucker, assistant Professor of Geology, Behrend Campus, Stanley Herring, Director Model Cities, Fr...

Main Campus Difficulties Acknowledged By Students (APS) The Office of Student Affairs Research last June completed a 16-month study of the problems involving the transfer of Commonwealth Campus students to University Park. The project included a survey of students prior to their transfer to University Park and a re-survey after 15 weeks of attendance at University Park; According to the study, which included 871 students, most transfer students are pleased with", their experience of living away from home, but fewer new people were met at University Park than the students had expected. The study found that many transfers underestimate the difficulties of academic adjustment at University Park. The majority find that grade competition is more intense and course work requires more work at University Park. The students surveyed also fell that University Park professors are more lenient about class attendance, have a great deal of knowledge about students' major fields, treat stu...

Open Letter to the Students Why No Extended Visitation March 3,1972 Mr. George Frola, Chairman The Joint Resident Council The Behrend Campus SUBJECT: Extended visitation policy Dear Mr. Frola: In your recent communication to me regarding "extended visitation policy", your concluding paragraph requests that I "read and evaluate" the new proposal. In accord with that request I would like to present to you the evaluation of the Office of Student Affairs regarding your proposal. I. To begin, I think it is appropriate to review the history of the parietal rules governing students in residence at the Behrend Campus over the past several years. The residence hall program began four years ago and at that time operated under what current standards would regard as a stringent series of rules and procedures; these regulations were primarily concerned with women students and included sign-outs and signins, overnight permission and a whole host of regulations regarding the student's pers...

—Editorial Opinion — Collegian Requests Probe Of J.R.C. Recently there have appeared many mis-happenings within our closely knit system at _Behrend Campus. The S.G.A. and the Behrend Administration have tried to solve many of these problems with the least amount of student unrest possible. Until this time this would have been thought to be true. Now there exists a break down in communication, not from the Administrations view point, but rather from the students organization, namely the Joint Resident Council. As seen within the content of this publication, we have made totally public the result of the recent issue of extended visitation hours, but if you take noticethe date of the letter is March 3. This letter released by Benjamin A. Lane, Dean of Student Affairs, was to be made publicly known shortly after it had been dated. Why is it now we hear of its content a month after the letter was to be released? Dean Lane's letter was sent to the Joint Resident Council and from t...
