r p. fa ffhe ffueumeari Views Volume 2, No. 7 TUCUHCARI, NEW MEXICO, SATURDAY. DECEHBER 8 1906. Subscription $1.00 a year. J'r, ELECTING DISTRICT ATTOR NEYS. II those papers and persons who are advocating the election of dis trict attorneys will go over into Arizona and investigate the condi tions over there, where they elect all their district attorneys, they will find that the system that we have here whereby the governor oppoints them, is by far the most satisfactory. The instant you put the position into the list of elective officers, you cut out from it the best of our at torneys who are proud to receive the appointment from the govern or's hands, but would not for a moment get into the political game and make the race for it on the regular ticket. Where district attorneys are elected the gentleman always has his eye on the future and generally for six months previous to an elec tion he dodges every indictment or prosecution that he thinks can in in the remotest chance injure h...

A surprise package to every purchaser of $1 .00 worth of goods. "THE RACKET STORE" J The Tucumcari Nr.ws takes very little stock in the furor raised by a few democratic papers in New Mexico about there being: an anti Hngorinan faction in the republi can party who are planning to thwart the efforts of the adminis tration in the next territorial as sembly. We believe the wish is father to the thought in this in stance. There arc no republicans in New Mexico who do not want good government and who will not .aid in any way possible the efforts of the governor to accomplish it. We transport in this country yearly 1,000,000,000 poun'ds of mail matter at an expense of $5 000,000 which is five cents per pound for the total bulk of mail matter moved. Contest Notice Puerto Pickings. (Correspondence. Say, wo arc having some cool weather out here. The smow made the fanners smile and they are going to plowing at once. The mail has been very irregu lar since the snow storm. It was three days late last week. The report that there is war be tween the cowmen and the settlers in this community is false. The best feelings exist between them. The fire on the plains did a great deal of damage. The TTT lost nearly all of their grass. Rays lost some, Mr. De Olivera and Tom Morris saved the most of their range by persistent fighting. George Yates and Sam Chadwick saved about one-half section of grass and lost two stacks of feed and some that was not yet cut. The fire started somewhere near the Horseshoe range Friday about noon and burned until the snow put it out. Our school is progressing nicely but was suspended last week on account of the bad weather. Quarterly conference of the M. E. church South met here Decem ber i. Bear Grass. Nothing t...

C. Davidson, elected dele gate from Quay county, expresses the following views: ."I am in favor of the delegates from New Mexico assembling and framing a constitution to be sub mitted to the people of the territo ry for ratification and then to con gress. "The only reason urged against the meeting of the delegates to frame a constitution seems to be that the territory should not be burdened with the expense of the convention. This opposition can be eliminated by the delegates meeting at their own expense and not asking the territory for an ap propriation for the same. 1 be lieve there is not a delegate chosen from this territory that will ...
