TIIR I1IRI.M OF TIIK lAY. The young ladies who hud their com mencement at Andover, the other day, began life well. By mutual agreement the wearing of bracelets, pins, rings nod other trinkets was discarded by the graduates, and the example was followed by mauy ladies prefeut. That graduating class will get on well in life. The girl who possesses the moral courage to abstain from the wearing of hnery on so capital an opportunity for display as commencement day, is a girl to be respected. Fortunately, in fash ionable life, the present style inclines toward the wearing of but little jewel ry, and it is but the ignorant of the . nouv&iux riches who flaunt trinkets. The Andover girls, therefore, may Lave been only ultra fashionable after all ; but yet they titnuld receive all credit possible for having resisted temptation and displayed common sense. Hudson Register. Now this is quite foolish. If there is ft duty which is imperatively neces sary to a young lady it is to look as pretty...

: ir. . ' .sl jii A MIRATI.OCfl BiM'Arit. The Calaveras Chronicle relates this Recount of an accident in the Qwin mine, which, although resulting harm lessly, was such a narrow escape from terrible death that its contemplation chills the blood with horror : A young nan named Nuner, a bucket-lander, was knocked head-foremost into the shaft and escaped with out any iniunr whatever. When it is understood that the shaft is over eight hundred feet deep, the miraculousness of the escape from instant death will be apparent. The bucket had just come up, and Nuner had "landed'' it. Subsequently, whilo pnssing botween the bucket and the shaft, Nuner was ttruck by the tub and knocked head long into the yawning abyss a swinging motion having been suddenly given to the bucket by the effort of the engineer to get the machinery "past center." Fortunately, after descend a few foet, Nuner struck a timber in the shaft, which partially broke his fall, and at the same time was lucky enough to be within...

THX GRKAT DANIIKR FROM MIMWTKRS. The establishment of iucIi relations between a pastor and his flock as shall secure for him that intimacy which ought to exist only in the domestic circle is an eviP of fearful tendency and unspeakable danger. Ministers are censurable in a high degree who en courage their people, men or women, to come to them with family matters or secret sores. Borne men are them selves gossips, and delight to get and give all they can of social dots, and the more secret the richer the prize. They encourage revelations when their ears should be deaf to eerything ap proaching to scandal. All judicious pastors discourage familiarity on the part of their people especially of the iemale denomination. For this way lies the danger. A eilly woman, pious perhaps, but very soft and shallow, hears the stirring words of her eloquent pastor, is roused, warmed, soothed, exalted she thinks edified and straightway she believes bim to be the man sent to do her good. She goes to bia...
