Abbeville, Vermilion Parish, La., Saturday, February 13, 1915. $1.00 a Yea IN II-- i- i- I l llllil lll • 6i m m ilaimm Hi- i l-l Which Shall It Be? Which Will You Do, Win Your Independance or Mar ry a Two-Bit Man? You are at the cross roads of life. There are two paths open to you. One leads to your independ ence, the other to dependency. You are to choose, not next year, not next mouth, but now, which of these roads you prefer to travel. One requires effort, the other in difference. To travel one must have a real back bone and deter mination, the other, a s.ring for a back bone, and indifference will do. Some girls say, "The lion is in the way." These girls lack gumption, get-up-and-get, they reason that if so-and-so and such and-such a thing had not have hap pened they could have made a great success. The lion is in the way. Fear and indifference has entered into their d...

Abbevill: Progress PHONE 248. 'lih bld oi the Atlantie co:ntlines neutral. There is one thing we all can tr'k about-ti;e other fellow. The tarigo may wane, but England is still willing to do the German. Removing the ban on "Tipperary" effectually disposes of the desire to sing it. The sun does not scorem to have aged much since the days ne used to know it. What has become of the old-fash ioned man who knew what wvas good for frostbite? It's a wise European father who brings his son up to be either a doc tor or an architect. Although coming ages may see the coal supply exhausted, we can still get our iron from the sea. "The squeeze 'em tight tango" is claimed as a new cance. May we ask just what is new about it? The war news readers who got along so well with Przemysl' won't of course, have any trouble with Przasnysz. The old-fashioned man who used to wear a muffler around his neck has a son who won't even put one on his automobile. Young men go to college mainly for atmosphere, says...

Celebrate Wash ington's Birthday All over this broad land the 22nd of February---Washington's birth day is celebrated. How shall any man add aught to the praise or eulogy of George Washington? History and biogra phy, eloquence and poetry have exhausted their combined riches upon the successful leader of the American revolution and the foun der of the Americar republic---our first great national hero. Every great crisis in the history of the world has found its man to control and guide it. Call this Pro vidence or accident, the American revolution was no exception to it. Before the first murmurs of discon tent were heard in that struggle the man was being prepared for the crisis. On the banks of thePotomac and the Rappahannock, thirty yea...

ABBEVILLE PROGRESS VOn. 2. P R OEDevoted to the Interests of Abbeville and Surrounding Community. Pmniy NO. 53. Abbeville, Vermilion Parish, La., Saturday, February 27, 1915. a Year. Imnuwam~nnNe U IYear. Improvements in Lighting System Through the efforts of the water and light plant committee, Mr. C. C. Broussard recently installed two 500 watt nitrogen electric lamps, to replace the gas lamps he had. Mr. Broussard tried installing his own electric lighting system, but he finds that getting current from the water and light plant is better. We compliment Mr. Broussard on his well illuminated store, which in our estimation, is the best light ed on State street. Our progressive merchant, Mr. C. F. Grimmer, put in this week a new nitrogen electric lamp of 500 c. p., overhanging the sidewalk at the corner of State and Lafayette streets, and is quite an improve. ment. It's a pity more such lamps are not seen along State street. What about a "White Way" for State street? Other towns have...
