THE VERMONT FARMER : FRIDAY, APRIL 6, 1877. RKCIPES. Takoca Poddino. Tako four tablespoon lula of tapioca ; soak in a llltlo water over night. 'Nexl morning pul on Iho firo and cook till well demo ; then add ono quart ol now milk and let it como to n boil, stirring constantly ; then add by degroca this yolkB of four eggs, a tcajpoonful of corn staroh, and naif a oup of sugar. Flavor, pour into a pudding dish and put in the oven. After it has been in about half an hour spread tko beaten whitos on top. Put back into tho oven to brown. Cream Oakk. Ono tablcspoonful butter, one cup sugar, one-half cup milk, twov cups dour, ono egg, ono teaspoon ful cream tartar, one-half tcaspoonfut soda. Bako in jelly: cako tins. Tin Cream. Ooo-Wlf pint milk, ono egg, one-quarter cup flour, oho' half cup sugar. Let tho milk come to a boil. A Providential Occurrence Among Iho Uoston men, bjh the Uoston Globo of Saturday morntog, who walked carelessly Into their offices or counting rooms yesterday mormog, was Mr. M. D. Downing, manager ol' tho American Novelty Company, at 60 school street. Soon after, one of hia young men, Robert I, Loheed of Sooth Dos ton, oamo in with the announcement that the Globe had put out an enormous bulletin an nouncing that "Vermont was to hang a man to-day wbo Maimed that ho was innocent." Mr. Downing at onoo sont out for a copy ol the paper. This itself was unusual, ilo cannot recollect to hare sent out to buy a paper in the forenoon for three years. This was at about fifteen minutes of 11 o'clock. Then he did another thing ho never did be fore read a long newspaper story in busi ness hours. V FKIIsAY, Al'HII. UO, IH77. Last week Wednesday tho Southern ' Ho tel at 8t. Louis was destroyed by tiro. Tho fire km discovered about 0110 o'clock. A. M., and had then obtained such headway that all efforts to bato tho building wero in Tain. Tho flames spread with groat rapidity and notwithstanding tho great sizo of the build Ing many guests barely escaped with their lives. As it was, eleven deaths are reported and some eight or ten are missing. The Southern contained nearly 700 rooms and wasexoelled in slie in America only by the l'alaeo hotel at San Franolsco. It was composed oulsido of ttono and Iron. Tho wido stairways and elevators admitted the air and hastoncd tho destruction of the block. Tho loss cannot yet be accurately estimated, but is soraenhcro in the vicinity of three-fourths of a million, insured for about 8300,000.
