V?" jr X-: The Madisonville Meteor — And Commonwealth — thibty-fgurth year MADISON !**! TRAFFIC NOW UND In the past several days there have been a number of near fatal accidenta at the main crossings and street in- tersections of the public square, and, ~to prevent this, the City Council, at /their regular meeting.Monday night, passed a -drive to the right ordinance, and a stop Ordinance, on approaching the square, which will be rigidly en- forced on all drivers of automobiles. Many will doubtless think this is not necessary in order to protect the public, but if some child or older per- son, for that matter, were killed at one of these crossings it would be worth the precaution, especially if that child happened to be yours - or mine, would we think so. It takes but little time to make the ^necessary, stops and to turn the corners as they should be when it lessens the danger to human life, and the ordinance, i)^y all means, should be rigidly enforced;.. Some weeks ago a child was r...

THE MADISONVILLE METEOR PAGE TWO THE OLD LOG SCHOOL HOUSE By Joe Sappington. #-♦—f. Tri Most all great men were educated in a log school house — Benjamin Franklin, Daniel Webester, Abraham Lincoln, Carrie Nation and I were educated in a log school house. I never burned the proverbial pine knot like some other great men of whem you have read, but I have walked several thousand miles to and from a certain log structure measuring fourteen feet in the clear, that reared its proud head six and a half miles in a southwest direction from my father's mansion. The old time school was strictly a business insti- tution and was not given to frivolity and social dissipation. The schools that attended lasted from sunrise to sunset, and it was nothing uncommon for me to arrive home from school of evenings and find my father's family retired from the night and deep in slumber. It may astonish an admir- ing public to learn that all I know of the dead languages was learned in a log school house, situ...

L' ; IF THE MADISONVILLE METEOR PAGE THREE FEEDING AND CARE OF BABY CHICKS By F. W. Kazmeir, Bryan, Texas The chicks are in well built brooder house, with a wood floor, equipped with a good brooder that will keep them warm in the coldest weathr. We have nice, fresh and clean litter on the floor, and the chicks are healthy and doing well. Our next problem is to keep them healthy, vigorous and strong. Feed hoppers and drinking vessels have been provided, a good commercial baby chick starter is be- ing feed. Daily Routine. Early in the morning, about six o'- clock, examine the heater, replenish fuel supply and make sure the chicks are comfortable.. Raise the hover, remove all litter, dirt and droppings and replace with fresh material. Note the chicks closely, kill weakly or sick ones. Examine the feed hoppers and be sure they contain a supply of feed. The feed hoppers should never be al- lowed to go dry for even a few min- utes. If the chicks crowd around the feed hoppers, provide more...

THE MADISONVILLE METEOR PAGE SEVEN IN THE OLD LOG SCHOOL H< «USE (Continued from page 2) At this juncture some one screamed that the mule was mad and for every- body to run for their lives. All the girls and little boys fled in a body, screaming as they went, while the teacher and the larger boys climbed trees. The teacher called for volun- teers and asked who would go for a gun with which to kill the mule. No sooner had he made the call for volun- teers than a cross-eyed fellow nick- named "Gizzard-Liped Bill" reached under his jean coat tail and brought forth an old cap and ball six shooter about a yard long, leveled it in the direction of Jackson, pulled the trig- ger and succeeded in ruining a nice, good cap; not until the last and sixth cap was tried did the six shooter fire, and then every load went off at once, knocking Bill out of the tree, but missing the mule. Just at this time Jackson broke the rope with which he was tied and dashed off through the brush with nothing b...

We always like to go to North Zulch and mix with the busi- ness men and good farmers we meet there. One of the biggest rains of the season fell here last Friday night, yet it was not so bad as to wash up the land and throw farming back much. Rev. W. N.
