The sleaiiship Republic which arrived at Galveston about the 5th inst. brought two hundred and six immigrants for Castro's Colo- ny on the Medina. They have proceeded to Port La Baca with a view to immediate set- tlement 011 the lands which shall be assigned them. OUR LEGISLATION. Few errors of government are more perni- cious to the cominuuiiy at large than frequent and inconsistent changes in legislation. They defy the eft i its of the wisest and most saga- cious to predict them set at nought the max- ims of ti e most prudent and involve in uncer tainly the results of experience.
