POTATO GROWING EXPERIMENTS. Among experiments carried out during several years in succession by the potato growers in Canada, under the direction of the Agricultural department, one has been in the cutting of seed, and planting with and without sprinkling with j;ypsum and lime. Those potato sets which have been sprinkled with gypsum have given decid edly the best satisfaction, as the results show 'that it has a marked influence in increasing the yield. Throughout On tario also another series of experiments have teen conducted in cutting potatoes five days previous to planting, and in cuUinjeanci planting potatoes on tlie same day. I have notice*!, this lasF-RreeEptr s boys at the Nambour school practising most assiduously, and in a short time expect to hear of some matches being arranged between the various school teams in and around Nara boun Tue Landsborough Cricket Club are holding their annual meeting iu the course of a week or so, and, judging by the accounts one hears, they are just as eager for the scalps of their Nambour friends as the Nambourites are for the Lands borians*. It is said that practice will be commenced almost im mediately in both townships, and great interest will be manifested in the opening match between these two teams. * ,* # The Budenim willow-wielders were out at practice last Saturday, and are eagerly preparing for the coming fray. A charge has been heard at Eal lina. at the instance of the tu5toms Department, against Walter Kemp nich. tliat'he made a false declar ation in applying ior sugar rebate. j.ne ueienaam, 11 was stated, re ceived rebate amounting to ^3,55. but claimed a further rebate of' ^235. The po'ice, however, received a re port that Hindoos had been working on the cane farm, and that the de fendant had sent in plans to the Custonxs-Tionse with irregular lines showing parts to be worked by white and black labour.. The Magistrate found d-efendant guilty, andinflicted fines amounting to ,£20, with £ ri 10s. costs.
