NATIONAL PROPOSITION AND A GILTEDGED INVESTMENT Despite all| we read about indus- trial unrest in Australia there is no doubt that the financial position is sound so far as private enterprise is concerned. While! the Govern- ments of Queensland and N.S.W. nave had difficulty in raising loans in the London market (probably o.v ing to their unsound financial man- agement) no difficulty is experienced in raising capital from the Ausi a lian public for sound enterprises ci* a national) character. The N.S.W. Government recently floated a loan in London for five millions of which onfy 20 per cent, was applied for hy the general: public the balance fall- ing on the underwriters. The Queensland Govt, with a smaller loan of three millions had a similar experience.
