LONDON WOOL REPORT.—AUGUST 24TH, 1861. [Newspaper Article] — Queensland Times, Ipswich Herald & General Advertiser — 15 October 1861

LONDON WOOL REPORT.-AvuusT 24Tr, 1861. The salescla los on the 27th. Total quantity ealculeted will reach 86,000 bales, of which about 4000 have been withdrawn. The nmarket is now steady. The dullness which existed for the first four days of the sales gave way to a rather better feeling, in con sequence of the catifssetory change in the weather for harvest operations; and, although there was little per. ceptible improvement in the north, it was evident tvat manufacturers took a more hopeful view of things gener ally; hence, after the first ten days, a rather better at tendance could be noted, which was a very seasonable and welcome addition ;for the dealers, who bought freely at the reduotion established, had been somewhat languid in their biddings, in consequence chiefly of the very small attendance of the larger manufacturers; hence for a few nights much discretion had to beezercised by thie brokers innot selling too freely. The result being that several large parcels were withdra...

To the Editor of trhe Queensland Tisea. Ssa,-T shall feel obliged by your allowing me, through the medium of your journal, to give a public and unquas lified denial to a most unfounded charee, made against me by Mr. Macelister, one of the "' Honorable Mem bers" for Ipswich, in a letter published by him in the last number of the Queeusload Tiune. He says, in sub stance, that my public disavowal of all connexion with the Ipswieb Grammar School Committee "can not be looked upou as intended for any other purpose than that of prejudicing the enforte of the Committee:" and by "prejudicing their efforts," he means preventing them from getting money. Now, it wao well known all along, and itlis plainlr stated in Mr. Macalister's letter, " that thie Committee undertook to collect onl the sum which would enable them to'procure the assistance provided by the Grammar Schools' Act," vin., £1000; and their progress was regularly reported every week by correspondents to newspapers.
