MOGLONEMBY. [Newspaper Article] — Euroa Advertiser and Violet Town, Longwood, Avenel, Strathbogie, Balmattam and Miepoll Gazette — 9 May 1884

The result of Moira Election has .given-general satisfaction h.re, and the farmers look forward to having their grievances fairly represented in Parli:, ment by the successful eandida e. We: do not s I f,,ll .in o the let:er with Mr Graham's political viaws, but we h?ve sufficient onfiderice in him to expect that he will work strenuously towards having some of the taxat'on remova d from agr.cultural implements. We, a a cla-s. are more heavily taxed than any other, and though we have to work hard our returns are generally very unsatis factory, .Now we do not mind work, but we object to slavery-and farming under the present iystem of taxation is not much better. Could we but get our implen..nts at a reasonable cost, we could then work our farmn with greater profit. end gradually makeourselves and famunilies comfortable; and instead of slaving fiom sun.ise to sunset, and sonmetimes atter,.we could take a little est, .and eampl..y men oassist us in our work.. Appalling Murder At South Melbourne. [Newspaper Article] — Euroa Advertiser and Violet Town, Longwood, Avenel, Strathbogie, Balmattam and Miepoll Gazette — 9 May 1884

Appaing Murder As sosuth ' * elbsourae. ' A murder of a hideous and'brutal character was perpetrated during Sun- [ day- atternoon 'at a small cottage 1 in"Moray-place off Moray-street, South Melbourne.. It appears thrt a plasterer named William Browning "agad:about 30, has been residing at the above place, with his wife and[ family of four children, for the last six [ months. Since their arrival the < neighbors have been continually ds- I Curbed by the drunken rows of the 1 couple. Yesterday another quarrel [ commenced between them about one 1 o'clock, and a neighbour, named Rolls, heard shrieks and the sound of blows. He went into the back yard and shouted out to the husband, Browning, that he was a blackguard to knock a woman about like that, and if he (Browning) would come out into the back yard he would give him a thrashing. Browning I answered back with a filthy expression, saying be would do what he liked, and he would notbe interfered with. Shortly afterwardsa scuf...

UADDAOGrII AD WAUUUEUAYXN. w~n=--A Since my last notes were sent very little change has taken place in our dis trict, • The election has been contested, and, as you know, resulted in the re turn of Mr. George Graham. Though not in the Electoral District of Moira, the residents of this neighbour hood have'watched the proceedings with fee.ings of great interest. Singular to relate, the two principal electorates in the North Es -.tern district are now rep esented by members bearing the chlristian name of "George." Messrs. Geo. Kerferd and G. Billson, represent the Ovrns, Moira having a- its embe: s, Messrs. Geo, Hall and Geo. Graham. Both the former gent emen have been brewers, and I believe the last two mentioned are believeis in the cause of Temperance. In a p evious communication I made reference to the hare and rabbit pest, and now I have to make a remark re the wild dogs. These nuisances have been very troublesome to our neighbours residing on the Strathbogie Ranges. Mr. Young I b...
