Surrey Hills. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESONDENT Wednesday.   -Election matters are beginning to liven up a bit now. Mr. Cooke had a very good meeting last Monday night in the Recreation Hall, for the Centre Riding, Shire of Nunawading. Mr. McDowall is actively canvassing the Centre Riding, Boroondara, and is receiving a large amount of sup- port. Messrs, Taylor, Sweetnam and McDowall will hold a meeting in the hall on Friday evening. Mr Perry of Balwyn, is announced for the North Riding, Boroondara, so   Messrs. Hicks, Day, and Maling will not have a walkover as was first anticipated. The new lodge, under the Manchester Unity Independent Order of Odd-   fellows, is to be opened In grand style,   in the Recreation Hall, next Tuesday crvening. There is some talk of formingan Aus tralian Natives' Association here, and no doubt, judging by the large numbers of young colonials in the neighbourhood, it would be a strong association . NEW RAILWAY STATIONS. [Newspaper Article] — Reporter — 25 July 1889

NEW RAILWAY STATIONS. The time has come when some defi- nite action should be taken in order to bring pressure to bear upon the Rail- way Commissioners with a view of getting proper railway stations erected at Mitcham, Box Hill, Surrey Hills, and Canterbury. The railway accom- modation at the places mentioned is altogether inadequate for public require- ments, and during the cold nights passengers are subject to great incon- venience. They have to walk up and down the platform waiting for the arrival and departure of the trains, and it generally happens that there are more pcople on these stations than the poking little shed will hold. Tlio.e who cannot get iniiide have to rI'ila.iln exposed to ite cleoimentl oiin lt plat forlil. Inl 801110 casest wolteii with young children have been comilpelled to stand in the rain until tihe arrival of the train.
