THE BURNING OF MR. MEIKIVEJOHN'S HOUSE. [Newspaper Article] — Rockhampton Bulletin — 9 January 1872

THE BURNING OF MB. MEIKLEJOHN'S HOUSE. In Saturday's issue wo alluded to the burning of Mr. Meiklejoh's house at Maryborough. The following evidence, published in the Chronicle, taken at the inquest held subsequently, gives pretty satisfactory proof as to the'origin of the fire: John Meiklejohn, the younger, being duly sworn, states : I am the son of Mr. John Meiklejohn, and reside at St. Mungo, East Maryborough; on Monday, the 18th December instant, I was at home, and heard my father ask for the gun, which is in the houso, hut not loaded ; I and all the family declined to let him have it ; my father said ho would bo obeyed by bis family, and desired all to leave the bouse, which we did, and I and all the rest of ibo family took up our abode-in the kitchen, at the back of the bouse, and about twenty feet from it; my father alone remained in the house, and continued there until Wed- nesday morning, the 20th December, about one o'clock, when my sister (Mrs. Wilmott) awoke me and said,...

A brochure has boen recently published, in which the course of events which is to lead up to the Imperial restoration, and those also which are immediately to follow, have been sketched in advance.
