STATE DEFEATS U. W. VA. In a very interesting game the Varsity defeated the University of West Virginia team here last Saturday. The visitors came with a good reputation and the uncert ainty felt by many with regard to the result drew a large crowd to Beaver Field. The teams lined up shortly after _3 p. m. The West Virginians kicked off and got down the field very quickl y. State gained but the ball changed hands and see-sawed back and forth for some time before Smith went over for the first touchdown. Forkum missed the goal. He then kicked off well down the field to Hineman. The Virginian made a very neat pass to Capt. Martin and continued across the field. It took the team some time to discover Martin well on his way for a touchdown. Saunders was his only obstacle. State’s quarter made a good attempt to stop the ball at the center of the field but Martin had good interference by this time. Saunder ’ s tackle, however , retarded Virginia ’s captain enough to enable the fleet-footed...

STATE COLLEGIAN Published on Thursday of each week _dun n the college year in the interest of The Pennsy Tania State College. _5_UflSCR IPT _IO N. _$1.50 per year on _$_1 25 if paid with in 80 days a fter date of subscript ion. Entered at the Post Office , State College, Pa., as second class matter. THURSDAY , OCT. 20 , _1904. The snmall blaze that occurred last week in one of the rooms on the fourth floor of Old Main is a warning to those who live in the dormitories. The carelessness of students in use of matches and the disposal of cigarette stumps is so great that it is a wonder that alarms are not more frequent. With such well dried timber as the Main building affo rd s and with such draft as the three large wells would provide a fire gaining a small headway on time second or third floors in early morning would soon make a roaring f urnace within the stone walls. The fi re escapes, th ree in n umber , are as far from the students as possible in the rear of the building and it is...
