The question was raised in light of the fact that Hamilton College had just announced its intention to construct a coordinated women s college Few thought F and M could become co-ed , others supported the idea of a coordinated women s college and the remainder were flatly opposed to admitting women at F and M . Other objections were that the traditions of the school would be destroyed , that the standards of the school would go down and that it was much , better to have an informal all-male atmosphere In a letter to the editor last week Madame Jeannet of the French Dept . expressed disappointment with the comments of the students interviewed She said , 1 found the stude...

EDITORIALS [Newspaper Article] — F&M College Reporter — 7 April 1964

EDITORIALS Recent Honors Indicate Progress Three announcements in the past few weeks have provided mounting evidence of the increasing stature of F and M as an outstanding institution of higher learning . These are the news items concerning the granting of IAESTE places , Woodrow Wilson fellowships and Phi Beta Kappa memberships . S . colleges in number of students participating in the program , which gives students an opportunity to do paid work of a scientific nature in a foreign country . The success of the program on any particular campus depends on the ability of students and professors there to find jobs in the neighboring area for foreign students . The activity of our IAESTE chapter in this field has been highly commendable . Last year one F and M student received a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship . This year the numbe...
