( Staff Correspondence . ) Humboldt , Tenn ., April 11 . —There is said to be considerable rivalry between the Louisville & . Nashville road witb its new refrigerator cars and the Armour Car Lines Co . for the business throughout this section . It will be recalled that prior to this season the Armour cars operated over the L . & N . road . Now , however , the L . & N . is furnishing its own refrigerator cars for perishable fruits and vegetables , but the Armour cars are being used by the Mobile & Ohio railroad . The Armour people have felt the loss of the L . & IN . business keenly and are letting go of it very hard . The Packer man has been informed that the refrigerator rate from this point to Pittsburg and Chicago is $ 57 . 90 nnd that the...

GEORGIA PEARS RUINED [Newspaper Article] — Chicago Packer — 13 April 1907
GEORGIA PEARS RUINED CROP ENTIBEM * KILLED BT LEAF - BLIGHT LAST WEEK * Three Weeks ago Prospects for Crop Were Good— Scourge Came tn a Night and Wrecked Kntlre Yield . New York , April 13—The South Georgia pear crop will not be big enough this year to even think about . Only a fortnight ago the indications were that the crop would be not only a big one but the fruit would be fine . Laat week it seems that in a night a blight struck it , and has almost wiped it completely out . The leaf blight comes in a minute , when it is least , expected , attacks tbe foliage and its damage is swift and sure . Pear growers of south Georgia were jubilant only a few days ago , but now their happy anticipations are turned to woe . George Olivit of Olivit Bros ., probably the heaviest operator in Georgia pears , returned the fore part of last week from his annual trip among his southern Georgia pear shippers . In an interview with Tlie Packer man upon his return he said that the outlook for the crop ...

At the end of the second week m April greater Xew York has over 223 ,- 01 ) 0 eases of eggs and the figure may be placed at close on to 2 S 0 . 000 , when we consider what stock is in the private houses , on the docks , in lofts and cellars of dealers about town . Not over half of these are packed for storage . Those that are , are in public coolers . But they are all eggs and they have got to be sold . In other words , they have got to come out at sometime between now and the first of next March . Almost 100 ,- 000 cases of...
