What has become of those "ably edited democratic papers," anyway? L.. . - From the looks of things there will be a whole lot of matters to be enquired into by a Congres ' sional investigating committee, in this territory, this winter. The editor of the White Oaks Magic will not submit to the rule of the bosses of the democratic party. He objects to bring herd- ' ed on a reservation with a G. btring attached. From the Editorial in the New , Mexico of Saturday last evidently someone is mistaken as to the manner in which the New Mexi can was organized, and the money to buy the concern was raised. THE CHIEFTAIN. Un Semanario publicado en mbos idiomas, Ingles y F.spanol. Tli Ilnsrlu-" Case. -'The comments of the New Mexican press on the Hughes contempt case present a curious tudy in journalism. - They seem inspired by partisan feeling, and personal friendship or malice and without the least regard to the law of the case, or the rights of the press. This has always been an unfortunate feature of New .Mexico journalism, and Mr. -Hughes' own paper, the Albu querque Citizen, is as much sub ject toihii criticism as any other of the riewspapers of the territory. "In commenting on the case these papers, which oppose Mr. Hughes, and stand in awe of the supreme judges, seem inspired by a gladness that Mr. Hughes is serving a term in jail. F.ithcr through hatred of him, or fear of arbitrary judicial authority, or an inability. to treat the case on its merits, they claim that Mr. JIughes committed an offence ;ind is properly punished therefor.
