TBER ICeMG VEMENT. fin.o. Democrat.] There are various indications cf the existence of a wide spread interest among our people rel tive to affairs in Mexico ann4 the United States. It is even asserted that pre parations are on foot for the organization, in this country, of a party looking to the ex tension of American principles and ideas, and the opening of that fine conntry to American settlement and immigration. It is the revival of an idea and'policy which have long and largely prevailed through, out the South and West. and have found expression in va rious enterprises, which have been attended sometimes with success and sometimes with disa-ter, Despite the sectional opposition and animosities which were kindled thereby within our own country, the movements prosecuted throu'h so long a period of our history, eventually culminated in the addition to our territory and the extension of our ideas and political and social system over the splendid countries now embraced within the gre...

We referred a few days ago to an objection which was be Ing made by a good many citizens with regard to the proposed tax for the benifit ofthe New Orleans Pacific Railway, that the tax might not be expended so as to com plete the whole line from New Orleans to Marshall, and we suggested that measures b taken by the directors to give the public fill explanations and assurances on this point. We learn that the company is preparing a compact and plain statement of the whole case, which we are sure will dissipate any . doubts upon this point. From New Or leans to Alex-andria is about 190 miles. Of this distance 85 miles are now in running or der to Bayou Goula. operated by the New Orleans and Texas Railroad C('ompany. The New Orleans Pacific Railroad has lately come into possession of 55 miles of graded road up on the same line, leaving only about 50 miles to be graded This work is said to be of a very light character. We are assured by the officers of the company that a large force wil...

,Pio."An wit diTd 5t NTXTLND TO Tmr s "" . .. ias E'.e'. Baltimore AMERICAN, May ' 8: Mrs. Myra Clarke Gaines, E whose contests in the courts for the possession of several million dollars worth of prop erty in New Orleans, left by Daniel Clarke, have made her name familiar to all readers + of newspapers, has at last found a Baltimore claimant to at least part of what she con siders her property. The story, as told by the counsel of the claimant, although it has about it a tinge of ro mance, is implicitly believed by him, and the parties most interested are sanguine that the developments made by them will lead to important results. The story is as fol lows: Miss Minnie Olarke is a young lady about twenty' three years of age,. and earns a livelihood by peddling books. Her father, who was a Baptist minister in the city, Daniel J. Clarke by name died of yellow-fever in New Orleans, where he had gone to look after some property. At about that time Miss Min nie was born in Baltimore Sin...

Dibble, who was i yesterday arrested on the charge, 'filed by Mr. Finney, the District Attorney, of em beasleing State funds, has played - quite a conspicuous role in Louisiana politics dur lug the past eight years. He is one of the smartest and most t unscrupulous of the band ofc carpet-bag politicians and plunderers who came into the State after the war, and by his superior impudence and shrewdness soon became em t inent and influential in an era when rsacality and audacity t constituted politics, and plun der the end of politics.
