Ol All of our churches were well at? tended last Sunday notwithstanding old "Soi" reigned supreme and shone forth in all His majestic powers Our Sunday Schools presented a bright aspect, both teachers and schol? ars entered upon their religious work with true christian devotion ; and all aeemed spiritually renewed and pos? sessed with new zeal. At the Second Baptiat Church, Sun? day, June IS, there was a very large congregation morning and afternoon. About forty candidates were immersed in the forenoon, and the Lord's Sup? per was administered in the afrernoon. Both of these aery ices were greatly en? joyed by all. The services at the Fifth Baptist Church on the same day were of a nigh order. Bundey School in geod trim, working with great success spiritually. Washington, July 19, 1897. President McKinley has had to aban don attending the dedication of the Logan statue in Chicago, owing to the delay in disposing of the tariff bill. He did so very reluctantly, as he was par ticularly anxious to be there, but, of course, duty came first. He did not wish to be away from Washington when the tariff bill is finally acted up? on by Congress, aa it is certain to be this week, now that the conferees have reached an agreement, notwithstand? ing the threat of a coterie of democrat and populist Senators to delay the ac? ceptance of the conference report by the Senate. These threats were pro? bably made for effect before the agree? ment waa reached, as nothing can be gained by delaying the asceptance of the report and even democrats and populists are not likely to engage ...
