In 1908 J. Levy the pres- ent owner opened with a small stock of dry goods and notions a small store on Taylor street in a building scarcely large enough to accommodate himself and the one boy clerk employed. Although the store was far from inviting on the exterior and was considerably out of the way of the regular shopping district business was good from the start and the little store prospered. More salespeople were added until there were as many as eight in the little room. IN the following year the stock was moved to one room of the newly built Eberstadt building next door to the post office. In a short time the other room of the same building was found necessary to properly conduct the growing business...
