MANIFESTO. The People's Federation of Soldiers and Citizens (Queensland Division). Head Office, Darragh's Buildings, - \ 331 Queen Street, ' BRISBANE. „ FELLOW CITIZENS, — - With the passing of the World War, those who have fought and worked for the overthrow of autocracy and for the triumph of Right and Justice are now asked to rally round the banner of true Citizenship with view of obtaining for our Country a Government of the v People, for the People, and by the. People. For this purpose the inter-State Conference of Soldiers' Political Parties resolved upon the formation of the People's Federation of Soldiers and Citizens, which now links up the Commonwealth with Federal and State Platforms, based upon common objectives. The People's Federation of Soldiers and Citizens is building on sound .foundations, the first principle of which is service in the interests of the whole community. This Organisation is out for a square deal to the returned man and the Citizen. ' ? It is neither...

Our Platform and Policy. AN EXPLANATION. [Newspaper Article] — The Leader — 1 September 1919

Our Platform and Policy. AN EXPLANATION. With this issue there goes forth to our v.. readers, our members and the people gener-' ally, the platform and policy of this* Federa-; tion, both State and Federal. ' ; Just now it is possible only to give you this bare outline. In future issues we will deal with the planks of the platform in detail. Since the day of Magna Charta the great democracy, knowri as the British Empire, has been growing, and to-day stands as the great est object lesson the world has ever received' of popular government. ? ? ' This has not been achieved in a moment. It has passed through regular evolutions. Beginning with the overthrow of Autocracy it ushered in a limited Monarchy. By an extension of the franchise the people were given a say in the selection of their governors and attention was directed to the fact that , the people were prepared to take their share of the burden of state as oppor tunity offered. v As the people outgrew the bounds, the sys tem of de...

Are our Banks Sufficient? (All Rights Reserved.) [Newspaper Article] — The Leader — 1 September 1919

Aire our Banks Sufficient? ? Y : : . - (By A. J. LEX.) j /; ' . (All Blights Reserved.) Outs ' is the age of specialising ; the proof is to be seen everywhere. In science, art or industry we* have expanded to such a degree that no one single brain, can encompass the whole of the sphere of activity which pre sents itself to-day, where yesterday there was only a narrow field. This applies to the banking system as well as to every other branch of human endeavour. Of course', if we assume that 'Banking' means ? only a facilitation of our cash thansactions, a mere Centralized cash department for the vari ous branches of the community's; business, then indeed our Banking system is efficient enough and it meets our needs. On the other hand we are confronted with the question: 'What are Banks?' ? Broadly speaking the banks are national institutions, no matter whether they .he State Banks or privately owned and controlled concerns, which regulate and direct the wealth of the country. Without...

What we want INDUSTRIES—PRIMARY AND SECONDARY. [Newspaper Article] — The Leader — 1 September 1919

What we want INDUSTRIES—PRIMARY AND SECONDARY. s From the 18th to the 25th August, the Chamber of Industries conducted an Exhibtion of Australian-made goods in the city of Bris bane. Various shop windows were filled with samples of primary products, and of articles manufactured from those products. Seated in some of the windows were returned soldiers and others at work on the manufacture of the articles. This was done in order to show on-, lookers, what could be made and the process of ... ? manufacture. The Exhibition was of very great interest to those who are filled with a sense of the part Australia is to play in the future of the world, and a matter of curiosity only to others who are not seized of the call ; of these times. The Governor, who opened the Exhibition, ? was very emphatic in his remarks on the de velopment of Australian industries, and he in stanced his , own interest therein by showing the Australian-made boots he then wore. There are others who are interested fro...

We loaded tup the waggon, 5 tons dead we put on her, then harnessed up our . team of 8 horses and, one fine Tuesday morning we sets out for the railway, 60 miles off. As, we lives on the main road you would think them 60 miles were just a walk over for 8 houses and 5 tons of maize, but, Sir, you, don't know our roads ; they are spelt with a R very large like and all tke other letters seem terrible small beside that capital R. Well, Sir, we . just reckoned on being back home on Saturday in time for the dance and we were telling each other what we would bring home for the girls and felt fine indeed when we cracked the whip and the team moved out.
