THE MERCURY. Published Monday, Wednesday & Friday FRIDAY MORNING. APRIL, 17TH, 1857 [Newspaper Article] — The Hobart Town Mercury — 17 April 1857

THE MERCURY. ¿ßublt'aheo- j&onftao;, SJartmtaoan. ÄjFtfOaa FRIDAY MOßNINQ. APßlL, 17TH, 1857 THAT the House of Assembly has no confidonoe in tho present Ministry haü now become an established fa¿t. We certainly rejoice at the decision of last Tuesday ; although not so much from the, discomfiture by it of Mr. Gregson'« Cabinet, as because it has viudi ca ted our honor, which has been sadly tarnished of late; and opened a door for a vigorous, a strong, and an enduring Government. The only obstacle to this, that we can see, is the assumption, that Sir Henry Youn¿ will grant to Mr. Gregson a new lease of his Office by dissolving the Parliament. We doubt this, however, and for several cogent reasons. That Mr. Gregson's influence-moral and physical-will be used to induce tnw step is certain. To him it holds out a remote chance of retaining power, and of ruining the Colony after his own peculiar fiblib n. It is the last flicker of his political caudle beforo it expires in the socke...

THEATRE ROYAL. [Newspaper Article] — The Hobart Town Mercury — 20 April 1857

THEATRE ROYAtr. The repteseutatíon of the Courier of Lyons this evening will affoid another proof of the anxiety cf the management to produce dramas of stirling oNcellence and of remarkable scenic beauty and sinking mechanical sffects. The success of the Corsican Brothers lins iitimulated to this exertion, and we have no doubt but that the performance will afford the utmost gratification. Tile Diairta ia a transition tom the French, and it founded upon an extraordinary Trial, which took place towards the end of the last century, in wh'ch a Monsr Lesurgues, a merchant, was actually condemned and guillotined, his identity being mistaken for that of the actual assassin. This circumstance is faith fully adhered to in the original drama, but in the English verdon, the real culprit to discovered in time to allow dramatic justice to be dealt to tile innocent and the guilty. \ The piece is strongly ciir, ' and we anticipate some excellent, acting by Warner, Drummond, Milne, J.
