Murder at Avoca, KILLED BY HIS MATE. COLLECTING EVIDENCE OF THE CRIME. As previously reported, a young man named William Small was recently fuond dead with his skull fractured in a lagoon on the Bona Vista estate. At the inquest a ver- dict of wilful murder was returned. John Beckett, a fellow servant of Small's, has since   been arrested on suspicion of being the murderer. He was taken from Avoca to Fingal on Friday, by Superintendent White- law, and lodged in the lock-up. Subsequently he was brought before Dr. Hoskins, J.P., and     remanded. The affair has caussd great local excitement. Beckett has a bad record, having once received a sentence of 20 years for cutting a woman'a throat at Fingal.
